Amazing Spider-Man actor Paul Giamatti says he is okay with not being able to return to the franchise

Back in 2014, Paul Giamatti played the role of Spider-Man in the Amazing Spider-Man 2. The actor was reportedly reprising his role as Rhino in the recent past, but it seems he is happy to leave MCU behind.

Just two years after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released in theatres, Marvel decided to bring in their own take on the popular MCU character with Tom Holland as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War.

After the commercial success of the Civil War, Tom Holland grabbed a couple of more appearances in various films as the next Spider-man.

Paul Giamatti will soon be seen in the upcoming movie Gunpowder Milkshake. It will be available for streaming starting July 16, 2021.

ComicBook.com approach Paul and asked him if he wanted to return as Spider-Man because rumors of other actors making a comeback being rampant. Paul said,

I’m happy. I hadn’t followed any of [these rumors]. Somebody else just asked me about this, so I hadn’t been following. I’m okay with that. I’m certainly okay to just leave it all where it is. It’s fine with me.

Spider-Man gained massive popularity back in 2002 with the release of Spider-Man featuring Tobey Maguire. After the trilogy directed by Sam Raimi was over, Andrew Garfield took over as Spider0Man in the 2012 movie. His role was cut short due to MCU’s announcement of Holland’s debut in the Civil War.

When the third Spider-Man MCU film was being shot, rumors spread that Doctor Strange would make an appearance in the movie as well. Benedict is also working on Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which explores the concept of multiple realities existing parallelly.

Reports have also suggested that Jamie Foxx will be returning as Electro and Alfred Molina would play the role of Doctor Octopus.
