Asus will soon announce the upcoming ZenFone 8 Series on May 12 at 7:00 PM CEST or 10:30 PM IST. It’s highly speculated that there are at least three models i.e. ZenFone 8, ZenFone 8 Pro, and ZenFone 8 Mini. Based on the latest video teaser, Asus ZenFone 8 is likely to get a 120Hz panel as well as a punch-hole cut-out instead of a flip camera mechanism.
Asus ZenFone 8 is “SMOOOTH”
Asus posted a teaser video on Twitter flaunting the smoothness of the display on-board the upcoming ZenFone 8. The teaser doesn’t explicitly mention that the device will have a 120Hz panel but Asus has intelligently doodled the word “Smoothness” adding 120 “O”. This is the reason why it is believed that the ZenFone 8 series will indeed have a 120Hz panel. For some context, Asus ZenFone 7 / 7 Pro already arrives with a 90Hz panel. While posting the video teaser, Asus did highlight that the ZenFone 8 series will have a smooth display raising suspicions that it is indeed a faster 120Hz refresh rate panel.
Asus ZenFone 8 series is likely to have three models as aforementioned. As per a Geekbench listing, the device is likely to have 8GB RAM, Android 11 out-of-the-box, and a Snapdragon 888 SoC under the hood. Further, a separate report mentions that the ZenFone 8 series will have a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary sensor paired with a Sony IMX663 module of unknown specifications.
A so-called ZenFone 8 Mini has been spotted on TUV certification that mentions it will have a 30W charging tech. Further, the device will have a 5.92-inch OLED display making it the most compact smartphone in the series.
Note that the Asus ZenFone 8 is highly likely to get a zippy 120Hz panel but don’t take it as a specification carved in stone. We are yet to get a confirmation so take it with a pinch of salt.
Asus could be hoping for a more conventional front and rear camera configuration instead of relying on a single camera rig on a flip mechanism. It is only on May 12 when we will get all the answers to the questions.
