The dad of murdered Becky Godden-Edwards has claimed that ITV’s “shameful” true crime drama A Confession “ruined his life”.

John Godden’s daughter went lacking in 2007, however it wasn’t till after the arrest of killer Christopher Halliwell in March 2011 that her physique was found.

On the time, Halliwell was in custody for the homicide of Sian O’Callaghan – a case that ITV dramatised in a six-part sequence starring Hollywood actor Martin Freeman and Harry Potter villain Imelda Staunton.

In keeping with the Mirror, John stated Becky can be “handing over her grave” if she might have seen the way in which he was portrayed within the drama, which aired earlier this 12 months.

He informed the publication: “Becky can be handing over her grave if she had seen the way in which I’ve been handled.”

John took difficulty with one scene particularly, through which Becky’s mum Karen Edwards (Staunton) meets John in a café, and he believes his household is “made to seem like villains”.

He alleges that he begged producers to not air the scenes, which he says prompted a backlash on social media and left him scared to depart his house.

He continued: “After I noticed the present I sat there in shock at how I used to be being portrayed – even the way in which the actor was dressed was nothing like me. I used to be an oaf, it was a complete character assassination.

“My life has been ruined over this. ITV have lots to reply for. They need to cling their heads in disgrace.”

ITV, which ED! contacted for remark, informed the Mirror in an announcement: “We listened to what John needed to say and, the place doable, amended some scenes to replicate his ideas. We’re glad that what was depicted within the completed piece was each correct and truthful.”

A Confession was usually nicely acquired, though viewers at house accused ITV of ruining the sequence with dodgy digicam work and unconvincing accents.
