APK file teardown by 9to5Google indicates that Google’s foldable Pixel device (might be Pixel Fold) will not feature the same camera lens or bump as the Google Pixel 6 series. Recent information has surfaced regarding the Google Camera app that indicates the foldable Pixel device could come with a codename “Pipit” that was changed from “Passport” for some unknown reason.
APKInsight discovered that a 12.2MP main camera will be on the foldable Pixel phone, just like the Pixel 5 model. In other words, the Sony IMX363 sensor should be there rather than the 50MP GN1 sensor (found on the Pixel 6 series). On the other hand, Google is also expected to use the Sony IMX386 sensor for the Ultrawide camera on the Pixel foldable device.
In addition, the two cameras on the Google foldable device are going to be dual IMX355 sensors with an 8MP selfie camera, just like the Pixel 5 and Pixel 6 models. In all likelihood, the “Pipit” will have dual selfie cameras (one for the external display when folded, and one for the internal display when unfolded).
There are plenty of rumors and expectations surrounding Google’s Pixel foldable device since it’s not officially announced. The rumors or leaks may all turn out to be true or false, but the device is expected to arrive sometime in 2022. This leaves almost a year for interested fans to get ready. Additionally, the Camera APK’s code contains the phrase “isPixel2022Foldable”.
