J. Cole is set to unveil his sixth LP The Off-Season on Friday, May 14th, and ahead of the drop of his highly-anticipated album, he popped up on the LA Leakers radio show for its promotion. The North Carolinian star dropped by the Power 106 Los Angeles station to deliver his first-ever LA Leakers freestyle. He took to the microphone with a slew of crazy, multi-layered, rewind-worthy bars over the beats from Souls of Mischief’s “93 Til Infinity” and Mike Jones’ “Still Tippin.” The polished flow of his freestyle, the appearance which was apparently 12 years in the making, and clever punchlines have elicited a wide range of reactions among fans.
When J. Cole was asked by the hosts to deliver some bars, he started a fiery freestyle over the instrumentals of 93 Til Infinity from Souls of Mischief. While the hosts are, evidently, awestruck and blown away by the bars, they give Cole the beat of Mike Jones’ 2005 game-changer Still Tippin. When Cole switches the beat, he adopts a breathless, machine-gun cadence. He throws some insane bars, which has caused some mixed and polarized reactions from fans. Most of the fans seem impressed, but one line, in particular, appears to have captured much of the attention.
When the North Carolinian picks up some steam in his second freestyle on the show, he spits this crazy line: “No Bill Cosby sh**, if ni**** sleeping then f*** ’em.” The double entendre from Cole has sent fans swarming to Twitter, posting their impressions. While some seem impressed, others have complained that the bar was in poor taste. The reactions were so many that “Bill Cosby” even entered the top ten trending topics on Twitter within an hour of the freestyle being dropped.
