Kendall Jenner is one of the well-known members of the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The influencer recently launched her new 818 tequila and is facing backlash for the same.
It all started with a social media user slamming the ad campaign and product launch for its “modern colonizer vibes.” Kendall’s promotion image on Instagram shows her in long braids beneath a big floppy rancher hat and an oversized shirt. She was seen walking along with a horse on the agave fields in Jalisco, Mexico. This is where the agave for his new tequila is grown.
The caption read,
What an incredible experience I have had thus far, learning about this beautiful place, its beautiful culture, and the beautiful people. @818tequila has launched in California… we will be rolling out to the rest of the US all summer long, keep a lookout!!!
It seems like people are more interested in criticizing Jenner more than anything else. According to InStyle, the comments on the post have been disabled. Social media is slamming Jenner over his using the name 818, which seems to have no relation to tequila or Mexico. Instead, it is the area code for the suburb of Calabasas in Los Angeles, where Kendall resides.
Some people are also questioning her role in the production of 818 tequila. It’s interesting how people did not criticize George Clooney for the endorsement of his tequila. Tequila experts like Lucas Assis tell us that the celebrity associated with the product is more important than the taste of the tequila itself, with many tequilas marketed under different brand names. According to him, the product is made at the NOM 1137 distillery.
Basically, they just make barrels and barrels and barrels of tequila, and celebrities come in and literally pick a barrel. What you’re paying for is the celebrity affiliation and not the quality of tequila.
