OnePlus Nord 2 to Launch With MediaTek Dimensity 1200 in Q2 2021, Claims Report

We recently learned that OnePlus is planning to launch its new flagship, the OnePlus 9 series, sometime in March. But now, a new report has claimed that the phone maker may also launch OnePlus Nord 2 in Q2 2021. The report also claims that the upcoming smartphone will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC, which is a 5G and Wi-Fi 6 capable chipset.

According to a report from Android Central, OnePlus will launch its next Nord device dubbed the OnePlus Nord 2 in the second half of 2021. The phone will feature MediaTek’s Dimensity 1200 chipset, which if true, will make it the company’s first device to use a MediaTek SoC. Dimensity 1200 is MediaTek’s flagship SoC based on a 6nm manufacturing process. It is an octa-core chipset that’s clocked at 3GHz and supports 5G and Wi-Fi 6.

Speaking of the system-on-a-chip (SoC) cores, it has a prime Cortex A78 core that goes up to 3.0GHz clock speeds. There are three additional A78 cores that work at up to 2.6GHz and another four Cortex A55 efficiency cores going up to 2.0GHz. The chipset offers high-end features such as support for up to 168Hz of screen refresh rate, up to 200-megapixel still photography, and even ray-tracing for mobile games. As aforementioned, the chipset is 5G capable and supports 5G connectivity for dual SIM and dual standby.

The OnePlus Nord 2 is expected to retain a similar price as that of its predecessor when it launches later this year. But before that, OnePlus has planned to launch the OnePlus 9 series that includes three handsets — the OnePlus 9, 9 Pro, and 9R — and a smartwatch dubbed OnePlus Watch. As per a recent tweet from OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, the next big launch will happen on March 8.
