The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google’s premium flagships of this year, were launched last month with new features and better cameras. But the phones have come with several issues as well, and one of them is related to the device’s in-display fingerprint reader. According to the Pixel 6 owners, the fingerprint sensor of Pixel 6 devices is too poor, and it takes a lot of extra time to authenticate the biometric details. However, Google has come up with a reply, saying that it is due to “enhanced security algorithms.”
Google explained the cause of the slow fingerprint reader in the Pixel 6 through its Made by Google account on Twitter. In a response to a user’s tweet complaining about the slow fingerprint scanner, the tech giant replied that the “Pixel 6 fingerprint sensor utilizes enhanced security algorithms.” It said, “these added protections can take longer to verify or require more direct contact with the sensor.” Google also linked users to a support page detailing a few troubleshooting tips.
Pixel 6 Owners Demand a Fix via an Update
While Google says the Pixel 6 fingerprint scanner turning unresponsive is due to enhanced security algorithms, users are not satisfied with the explanation. It’s been reported that in some isolated instances, some Pixel 6 units were unlocked for other people’s fingerprints, even though these fingers had never been set up. If Google was actually using “enhanced security algorithms,” these things would have not happened. On top of that, it makes the unlocking experience of users quite frustrating.
To remind you, a similar problem happened to Samsung’s S10 and Note 10 in 2019. The fingerprint on these devices did not work well with cheap screen protectors. However, Samsung fixed the issue by releasing a software update. We hope for a similar fix from Google and believe that the company is already working on it.
