Pixel phones are one of the best Android smartphones in the market as they come directly from Google, the maker of the Android operating system. Google keeps testing and implementing various things in its phones to make them more durable, power-efficient, and better.
That said, in late 2020, the Mountain View-based search giant introduced “Adaptive Charging,” a new feature for Pixel phones that adds the ability to alter the charging speed of a Pixel device to improve battery health. Now, a support community manager of the Pixel Phone Help forum has detailed how charging works on the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. And according to the post, Pixel phones may pause charging at 80 percent “under certain conditions” in order to optimize battery performance.
Pixel 3 and Newer Phones Pause Charging at 80% Under Certain Conditions
Google has published a detailed support page on its Pixel Phone Help website, describing how the Pixel 3 and newer phones automatically limit charging to about 80% to help preserve battery health. However, that happens only under certain conditions, and here we have detailed these conditions for you. According to Google, your Pixel phone may pause charging at 80 percent under any of the following two conditions:
- If your Pixel phone is on a continuous charge under high battery drain conditions, such as gameplay.
- If the phone is on continuous charging for four days or more.
Note that when your phone no longer meets the above conditions, this temporary feature automatically turns off. You can know that this feature is off when your Pixel device starts to charge to 100%.
Moreover, if this feature is turned on, a notification will appear on your “Always On Display” that says “Optimizing for battery health.” Similar notification will appear in the Settings app under “Battery,” as well. However, you can turn off/stop using “Optimizing for battery health” on your Pixel phone. To do this, follow these steps:
- First of all, unplug your device from its charger, or if you’re using wireless charging, remove it from the Pixel Stand.
- Next, restart your phone. Or you can wait for about 10 minutes to get this feature turned off.
If you have restarted your phone, the feature will be turned off, and the “Optimizing for battery health” notification will disappear. Now your phone will charge to 100%. However, you should note that the feature will automatically turn back on if your phone meets the above conditions again.
