In a shocking revelation, Prince Harry told the world that he drank heavily and took drugs to cope with Diana’s death. The pressure of the royal life also resulted in panic attacks during his early 30s.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry discussed his mental health. It was a part of the interviews in a wide range of interviews for the Apple TV+ documentary that wants to end the stigma around the issue.
Harry also revealed that he was angry about what happened to his mother as a child and discussed her loss. He was The Duke of Sussex when Diana died in an accident in 1997, saying that only a handful of people talked about her death. This also resulted in him having anxiety and panic attacks even in his adulthood.
Prince Harry was also featured in several UK tabloids and media outlets because of his party lifestyle. He added,
I would probably drink a week’s worth in one day on a Friday or a Saturday night. And I would find myself drinking not because I was enjoying it but because I was trying to mask something. I was willing to drink, I was willing to take drugs. I was willing to try and do the things that made me feel less like I was feeling.
“The Me You Can’t See” is a series of stories that discuss the mental health of several well-known figures around the world. The show’s executive producer is Oprah Winfrey, with Harry as Co-creator. To date, celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Glenn Close, and even NBA player Demar DeRozan have come out and discussed their mental health on the show.
Harry and Meghan have stepped out of royalty in 2020 and moved to California. They have openly come out with the difficulties they had to face with the British Monarchy. He also said that being a Royal was severely affecting his mental health. In an interview in March this year, Meghan said she considered suicide an option when she was pregnant with her son.
Last month, the Duke of Sussex, Harry, went to meet his brother Prince William after the death of their grandfather, Prince Philip, despite rumors saying they don’t want to see each other. He said growing up in the royal family was like growing up in a zoo in a separate event.
