Samsung 200MP sensor could reduce the rear camera bump

Samsung not only offers Android smartphones and its in-house Exynos chipset but also camera sensor for the mobile devices. Last year, Samsung did introduce the 200MP ISOCELL HP1 image sensor that’s much powerful in capturing details and image processing. Now, it seems that the company is trying to include a new image sensor to the premium segment models. Now, multiple reports are coming out that Samsung 200MP sensor could reduce the rear camera bump a lot.

Samsung has also introduced its latest 200MP image sensor with the ISOCELL HP3. That means the HP3 image sensor has a 0.56μm pixel size that’s 12% smaller than the HP1 sensor. It basically reduces the overall size of the camera bump. The ISOCELL HP3 sensor offers improved HDR performance with faster auto-focus. It can also capture 50MP photos with 1.12μm pixels using 4-to-1 binning.

Whereas 16-to-1 binning offers 12.5MP images with 2.24μm pixels approx. It’ll obviously improve the low-light performance. The new image sensor includes Samsung’s Super QPD auto-focus system that uses a single lens over four pixels to identify various aspects in vertical and horizontal angles for sharper focus.

The ISOCELL HP3 sensor supports up to 8K video recording at 30fps and 4K video recording at 120fps maximum. So, one thing is clear almost 99.99% of users will get better results with this sensor in video recording because 4K resolution is currently being used on every platform. It’s a future-ready image sensor too because of the 8K video recording support.

Samsung is working to include Smart-ISO Pro which offers data from low, mid, and high ISO modes for better HDR quality. It supports more than 4 trillion colors (14-bit depth) that’s 64x better than the ISOCELL HP1 sensor. In order to find out which Galaxy model is gonna receive this image sensor integration, we may have to wait until 2023.
