Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor, with a 200MP resolution, was recently released, pushing mobile technology to a new level. It will be available in smartphones by 2022.
Previous rumors suggested that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra model might have a 200MP camera sensor, but that may be true at this time. Samsung is still in the development and testing phase of its own 200MP smartphone camera sensor, which could take some more time to make a name for itself. However, other brands have begun to use the Samsung sensor.
According to the popular tipster @UniverseIce, Motorola’s flagship devices will include Samsung’s 200MP camera sensor, which was reportedly developed by Samsung. Sounds strange, but it might be true. In the first half of 2022, Motorola is expected to launch a smartphone with a 200MP camera sensor. The second brand to use the same ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor in its flagship device will be Xiaomi in the second half of 2022, according to expectations.
It is also possible that Samsung plans to develop a larger, more stable or more powerful sensor for its phone camera in the near future. However, IceUniverse reported that Samsung will use the 200MP sensor in its own Galaxy smartphones as well, but no official report has been released on this. Until then, we may have to wait.
With regards to the so-called ISOCELL HP1, it is a 1/1.22-inch sensor with a 200MP resolution, offering a native pixel size of 0.64μm. It basically supports 2×2 (50MP images with 1.28µm pixels) and 4×4 pixel binning (12.5MP images with 2.65μm pixels) modes for higher light sensitivity in the low-light scenarios.
The camera sensor will capture more light and a wider dynamic range in bright situations (up to 8K@30fps) so that it can capture and process images or videos. With a wide field of view, it’s even capable of recording 4K videos at 120fps. In several reports, it is claimed that Samsung’s first higher mid-range Galaxy smartphone will use the 200MP camera sensor.
The ISOCELL GN2 camera sensor from Samsung, according to reports, is by far the most suitable one for smartphones with its 1/1.12-inch sensor (larger than the 200MP ISOCELL HP1 sensor) and pixel size of 1.4μm. It also incorporates Dual Pixel Pro autofocus technology, as well as 8K@30fps, and 4K@120fps video recording.
