Sony’s Upcoming 1000XM4 Earbuds Design Revealed

According to a post by The Walkman Blog, Sony will soon release their next generation of noise-canceling true wireless earbuds. The post leaks images of the company’s WF-1000XM4 from almost every angle. The new images are consistent with a previous leak that came out in February.

What has changed?

Comparing the design of the Sony 1000XM4 with the already aging 1000XM3s, it looks like the upcoming earbuds will no longer feature the signature pill shape. This puts the newer earbuds directly in competition with the Galaxy Buds Pro and the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless, which feature a round outer design.

This time, the company has also made the Sony branding a bit less noticeable, moving it to the side of the earbuds instead of slapping it in the middle like last time.

However, the Japanese manufacturer has decided to stick with its black and copper rose gold color combination. While the earbuds are mostly black, the mics on the devices used for noise cancellation are golden in color. Finally, it looks like the Sony 1000XM4 will come with a charging case with support for wireless charging. This is a standard feature found in premium earbuds. It seems the charging time will also be less since Sony has increased the overall charging current.

If The Walkman Blog is right, Sony might announce the product sometime in June. The information is supposedly based on Sony’s confidential request to the Federal Communications Commission.

The Sony 1000XM3s did not offer any water or sweat resistance. However, they are quite old now. Even entry-level earbuds offer these features now, but it is still unclear if the company will offer the feature. We will have to wait a few weeks more to find out the answer to all our questions.
