Tamron is known for developing affordable yet advanced lens. The company just announced its all new ultra telephoto lens that offers a zoom ranging from 150mm-500mm with f//5-6.7 Di III VC VXD that are made for Sony’s full frame cameras.
It is the successor to the company 160-600mm f/5-6.3 lens that was released way back in 2013 for Nikon and Canon’s DSLR camera. It carried the companies’ tradition of producing affordable and physically small glass. According to Tamron, the reduced size makes it more comfortable for handheld devices. The company says its new lens is astoundingly compact, with dimensions of just 8.3 inches in length and 3.66 inches in diameter.
Tamron has also used the vibration compensation mechanism in their lens so as to stabilize it. Vibration Compensation currently has three modes available – framing, panning, and standard. The minimum focus distance is set at 23.6 in when the lens is zoomed out and 70.9 when it is zoomed in. It also offers macro capabilities, and changing the zoom from 150mm to 500mm requires the ring to be turned a mere 75 degrees.
It makes use of the company’s VXD autofocus motor, which is found on Tamron’s 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD. In addition, the lens offers some resistance to moisture as well as dust. In case you want to lock zoom, the lens also features an Arca-Swiss tripod mount that also comes with holes for strap attachment along with a “FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism”.
Tamron’s latest offering will be available sometime in June with a price tag of $1,399.
