The Venom: Let There Be Carnage makers graced us with a second trailer, revealing something extra about what we can expect from the movie releasing in the fall.
This Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson-starrer is all set to go beyond boundaries with some humorous punchlines, existential crisis, and a very murderous serial killer symbiote alien on the loose.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage would be following the footsteps of its predecessor Venom, which was released in 2018 starring Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed. It will follow the same banter relationship between Brock ( Tom Hardy) and his symbiote Venom but a particular serial killer alien Carnage (Woody Harrelson) would be third-wheeling as the villain this time. While the first movie garnered some mixed responses from both audience and critics, it looks like this time we might see a different reaction.
With Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle) at the helm of operations as the movie’s new director, you can expect some changes. This time a more captivating plotline seems to be the agenda of the cast and crew, and after seeing the new trailer, it seems to be working.
The new trailer starts with a rough patch, where Eddie Brock and his blood-starving symbiote Venom are fighting regarding their low-human diet these days. By the end of Venom (2018), we saw Eddie allying with sarcastic alien Venom, agreeing to a diet plan according to which Venom would be able to maintain his hunger by eating some criminals off the street. But it looks like this agreement is facing some glitches in the trailer.
In the movie trailer released on Monday, Eddie has grown tired of chasing after criminals, but Venom is having none of it. Even after a pretty serious argument where Brock mentions getting banned to “Area 51” ( loving the whole conspiracy), Venom is just not interested in peace talks and breaks Brock’s nose (twice) and then adds “You’re a loser.”
While these constant husband-wife-like punchlines are quite common to the Venom franchise, what isn’t common is a big-bad supervillain.
The Venom: Let There Be Carnage’s second trailer deep dives into the villainy side of the movie and shows us the origin of antagonist Carnage. It appears that Carnage is going to be birthed out of accident ( Quite common in Supervillain births). Cletus Kasady a serial killer asks Eddie Brock to write about him, what he doesn’t expect that he will bite him and swallow his blood for fun. Which leads to the genesis of our crimson blood-thirsty Carnage.
But it is also worth noting that he is not alone, he comes with a romantic interest Shriek, played by Naomie Harris. We caught a lot of glimpses of her in the trailer and she looks promising in that role.
When Naomie Harris was asked about her role in the movie this is something she had to say:
“She’s a damaged soul and she has suffered in her childhood, but there is a real vulnerability about her, and she’s in a lot of pain… She’s been living in isolation for years, years and years,”
Andy Serkis also mentioned this new character in one of his interviews:
“With all of these characters, what’s so beautifully drawn about them is that they’re multi-faceted, they’re truthful and believable, and yet … She’s dangerous too and I think she has her sense of fairness and being just, and I think when that line is crossed, then you see a very, very dangerous, dark side to her, and that’s what we wanted to do with the character.”
Others joining the cast would include Michelle Williams as Eddie’s former girlfriend, Anne Weying, who would be joined by a new lover played by Reid Scott. When it comes to lovers in this movie it looks like villains are luckier than heroes.
What is interesting in the trailer is the lack of a release date. Initially, September 24 th was supposed to be the releasing date, but now it is completely missing from the trailer. “Coming in fall” is the only caption mentioned at the end of the trailer, which makes us think that there can be some delays.
We can’t wait to know what’s next for this movie. Until then we wait eagerly!
