WhatsApp Will Soon Allow Users Transfer Chats Between Android and iOS Devices

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new and useful feature that will allow users to easily transfer their chats between Android and iOS devices. As per a report from WABetaInfo, the Facebook-owned service is developing a “Chat History Migration” feature with which you can transfer WhatsApp conversations from Android to iOS and vice versa. The feature is expected to be released in a future update for both iOS and Android versions of the messaging app.

To migrate the WhatsApp chat history from one mobile operating system to another, ie. between Android and iOS, users will have to update the messaging app to its latest version. You can see this clearly from the attached screenshot that before transferring your chat history, you need to update to the latest version of WhatsApp. Currently, no other screenshot is available, so we can’t exactly say how the feature will work. But it should be something like an export file that users can export on one device and import it on another.

WhatsApp is Also Working on Chat History Sync

In addition to the “Chat History Migration” feature, WhatsApp is also rumored to be working on enabling chat history sync across different platforms. This is required for the messaging service’s upcoming multi-device login feature. As per the reports, the upcoming multi-device feature will allow users to link up to four devices at once to a single account. This is similar to the feature already provided by Telegram, another popular messaging service. The multi-device feature is expected to be rolled out sometime in the second half of 2021.

WhatsApp currently does not allow its users to transfer or migrate chat history between Android and iOS. But, there are third-party apps that do allow users to move their chat history between phones running different operating systems. However, WhatsApp calls it to be against their terms of service because they “can’t validate their security practices.” The new feature will be quite useful for people who switch their phones with different operating systems and want to retain their previous WhatsApp chats.
