WhatsApp currently testing “Disappearing messages” and “Link Previews”

WhatsApp is always working on bringing in new features now and then. The messaging platform’s latest tool is currently testing the ability to send “Disappearing messages” and “Link Previews.”

Lets us talk about Disappearing messages first. This is not the first time a messaging platform has is trying its hands on the feature. Companies like Snapchat and Signal already allow the users to send messages that will disappear/delete themselves after the receiver reads them. Users can share images, text, and videos.

Another nifty feature the company is currently working on the ability to preview links from the app itself. If you share a YouTube link with someone, the receiver sees a video’s thumbnail, so he knows what it is about.

Similarly, WhatsApp users will soon be able to view the contents of any link. WABetaInfo spotted the link preview feature.

Having said that, the feature is currently available only for iOS users, with plans to port it over to the Android version soon.

Another interesting thing to note is that the thumbnail might vary from website to website. If a website does not feature a high-resolution thumbnail, the app will present a smaller-sized thumbnail.

Last but not least, WhatsApp has decided to bring back green notifications to the application. After feedback from Android beta users, the company realized that the feature was not welcomed by many, which Mashable India also reported.

If you want the green notifications back, it is currently available in WhatsApp 2.21.12.12 beta update.
