Upcoming Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro will get three years of Android updates and four years of security updates

Over the past couple of years or so, several Android device manufacturers have implemented consistent and frequent software update support to their eligible device models for at least 2-3 years and pushing the security patch updates for at least 4 consecutive years from the timeline of launch. We’ve already seen multiple brands such as Nokia, Google Pixel, Essential PH doing the job quite nicely. Last year Samsung has announced the same and now Xiaomi is also on the list. Recently, an official poster reveals that the Upcoming Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro will get three years of Android updates and four years of security updates.

Well, initially it seems a good move by Xiaomi because the MIUI bugs and plenty of optimization parts were left untouched for months due to the lack of consistent software update support by the brand. Although some of the Xiaomi devices may receive a couple of MIUI version updates, existing users aren’t happy with the inconsistency of security patch updates and the native Android OS version updates.

In terms of the Xiaomi users’ perspective, they’ll definitely gonna feel more updated and secured just like some other brands who push frequent software updates for a few years. In a recent announcement, Xiaomi confirmed that the upcoming 11T and 11T Pro would receive three major Android OS updates, along with four years of security patch updates starting upon their release. More info and announcement will take place on September 15, 2021, at the online event by Xiaomi.

We must say that Xiaomi is working really hard to compete with other global brands neck-to-neck and offering such a great move. It’s better late than never so, more & more Xiaomi devices will get the same kind of treatment in the near future expectedly. Additionally, the company also mentions in the press release that “other devices are not included at this time”. So, we’ll have to wait and see how things will work in reality because it’s not only saying or promising anything but also matters most while delivering it on time.

According to the statement by the brand, it will

evaluate the possibility of bringing the extended Android system and security upgrades services to more Xiaomi devices

as we’ve just mentioned. Albert Shan, Head of Product & Technology at Xiaomi International said,

With the continuous improvement made to smartphone hardware, the life cycle of a smartphone is gradually lengthening, meaning users aren’t required to replace their smartphones as frequently. For this reason, more consumers place great importance on receiving the latest operating system updates, along with the latest features.
