We yesterday reported that uninstalling WebView fixed this issue, but Google didn’t acknowledge that it happened from their side. Now after a thorough investigation of the issue, the tech giant has fixed the app crashing issue by releasing an update to the Android System WebView through Google Play Store.
To those of you who are still unaware of the issue, Android apps like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Google had suddenly started crashing on users’ phones. Down Detector had also registered a spike in Gmail reports, indicating Google’s mail service was down. However, the cause of this issue was found to be the Android System WebView that caused the apps to crash and prevented them from opening. But now, Google has released an official update to the app that fixes this issue.
Android System WebView Update Fixes App Crashing Issue
Google has officially acknowledged that the recent app crashing issue faced by several users was indeed caused by the Android System WebView application. Now the company has resolved that issue with WebView and released an update through the Google Play Store. All who face the crashing issue have to update the Android System WebView application from Play Store, and it should fix the problem.
“We have resolved the issue with WebView that caused some apps on Android to crash for some users. Updating Android System WebView and Google Chrome via Google Play should now resolve the issue,” said the Google spokesperson.
All Android users are advised to update the latest releases for Android System WebView and Google Chrome browser from the Google Play Store. How to do this – Open the Play Store app on your Android smartphone and then tap the hamburger menu on the top-left corner. Now open “My apps & games” and tap update against the relevant apps to update them.
