Meta Platforms unveiled two prescription-ready Ray-Ban smart glasses models on Tuesday with pricing beginning at $499. This expansion solidifies Meta’s commanding position in the wearable technology sector where it currently leads the competition.

Both new variants — the Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Ray-Ban Meta Scriber Optics — are currently available for advance orders through Meta’s website and Ray-Ban’s official site. Physical availability at optical retail locations across the United States and selected global territories begins April 14.

These eyewear products accommodate an extensive variety of users by supporting virtually every prescription category. Design enhancements include extended-range hinges, replaceable nose bridge components, and temple arms that opticians can customize.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has emphasized that several billion individuals worldwide rely on corrective eyewear — making prescription compatibility a natural evolution for this product category.

Meta simultaneously broadened the color palette and lens selections for its Oakley Meta Vanguard and HSTN collections. Additionally, three exclusive seasonal colorways are being introduced for the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 lineup.

The technology giant plans to introduce Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta eyewear into additional international territories over the upcoming months, with Japan, Korea, Singapore, Chile, Colombia, and Peru among the target markets.

Regarding software enhancements, Meta integrated a nutritional analysis feature into the glasses. Voice-controlled WhatsApp message summaries and recall functionality are entering limited early access testing, while simultaneous translation capability now supports 20 different languages.

Display Glasses Get New Features Too

Meta’s Ray-Ban Display eyewear — introduced at a $799 price point in the previous year — is receiving additional functionality upgrades. Recent additions encompass browsing Instagram Reels, quick-access Spotify controls, at-a-glance information widgets, and simultaneous recording of both the display interface and the wearer’s field of vision.

Neural handwriting technology is anticipated to become available within the next several weeks.

The Display glasses support prescription lens integration for an extra $200 charge, although Meta postponed their worldwide distribution earlier this year citing inventory constraints and unexpectedly high consumer demand.

    Competitors Are Moving Too

Meta controls 76.1% of worldwide smart glasses distribution, based on IDC research data. The sector delivered 9.6 million units throughout last year and industry analysts project growth to 13.4 million units in 2026.

Snap has established a dedicated subsidiary focused on its augmented reality eyewear and is readying a consumer-facing launch. Google has formed a collaboration with Warby Parker to develop its own AI-powered glasses offering.

Meta produces its Ray-Ban eyewear through a strategic alliance with EssilorLuxottica, Ray-Ban’s corporate parent. The corporation has committed to investing hundreds of billions of dollars toward its “personal superintelligence” strategic initiative.
