Google launched its premium Pixel 6 lineup a little over a month ago, and since then, users have been reporting one issue or the other. Recently, several users reported that the Pixel 6 camera had some issues in night mode. Earlier, users have reported issues with the device’s fingerprint being slow or breaking when they change animation speed. Now, some Pixel 6 owners are facing issues with charging.
According to several reports from the Pixel 6 users on Reddit [1, 2, 3] and Google’s community forum, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices stop charging when they use third-party chargers or cables. Users report that they’re having trouble charging their devices using older or third-party chargers. Per the reports, when you plug any USB Type-C cable or third-party charging brick to charge your Pixel 6 or 6 Pro, it does not charge.
Only Google and PD-capable Chargers are Working
After facing this issue of their Pixel 6 not charging with other chargers or cables, users took to Reddit and Google forum to complain about the problem. Some users said that their device charges too slow when using a third-party charger or a cable. However, some said that their device doesn’t charge at all or barely charges. It looks like Google prevents certain kinds of chargers from charging its Pixel 6 series handsets.
But fortunately, there seems to be a workaround to this problem too. According to one Pixel 6 owner, users can charge their device using a Google charger or a third-party PD-capable charger. It seems like the Pixel 6 phones are designed to not charge when they detect low charging current, especially with the type-A charging ports.
While it may be helpful to have support for other chargers, it’s recommended that you use a Google-branded charger to charge your Pixel 6.
