Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, who had a daughter last year, have appeared in RepresentUs For the People Act voting rights bill video. It is currently headed to the Senate.
Like all other time travel fiction stories that explore the future, this video has the same problem. The events of the past in those timelines have never taken place. The duo sends a message to the present from a post-apocalyptic world where ‘democracy is dead.’ The PSA, which is sent to the past, asks all Americans to contact their respective Senators to support the For the People Act, a voter right protection law that is now facing several challenges in the Senate.
The way for the passage of the act does not look good at all. RepresentUs, a bipartisan anti-corruption group, has started a campaign asking all Americans to support the bill. According to the co-founder of RepresentUs, Joshua Graham Lynn,
The For the People Act is the most important democracy legislation since the Civil Rights Act passed in 1965. The vision of this campaign is to help change that by inspiring Americans of all walks of life to learn about this crucial legislation, call their senator and tell them to pass the For the People Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
Joshua adds that more than 70% of Americans know about the bill are in favor, but only 20% are aware of its existence. The “For the People Act” is facing an uphill battle, and one is that it is not easy to win. Since March 2021, United States has passed more than 400 bills, resulting in even more restrictions on voting rights. The most affected states include Texas and Georgia, where both Democrats and the American people denounced the numerous bills.
