Xiaomi is gearing up to launch two flagship foldable phones aka Xiaomi J18s and Xiaomi K8 and these will be the company’s devices to have an in-display selfie snapper. Well, there’s more to the story as the reputed leakster Digital Chat Station has posted some key information on his Weibo account. Currently, Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold is the first foldable smartphone from Xiaomi which means the J18s and K8 will be second in the line.
Leaked Xiaomi J18s camera specifications
According to the latest information by Digital Chat Station(Weibo), the Xiaomi J18s will arrive with a triple rear camera setup. This will include a 108MP primary snapper, a liquid lens supporting 3x optical zoom capability. The secondary snapper will be an ultra-wide lens and there’s an in-display selfie camera. According to an earlier report, the Xiaomi J18s with the in-display selfie camera that I mentioned above is a third-generation of in-display camera that was teased back in August last year.
Apparently, the in-display snapper technology works by forming a gap in the sub-pixels alignment where the region above the front selfie goes transparent when the camera is enabled. When the camera is not required, the region above the front camera transforms into the same pixel density as the rest of the display.
The display mounted on J18s is a 90Hz refresh rate whereas Mi MIX Fold had a 90Hz outer and a 60Hz inner panel on-board. With that being said, the speculated J18s could get a 90Hz panel on both sides.
As Gizbot puts it, the J18s are speculated to get an 8.01-inch primary and a 6.50-inch secondary display. The foldable device will compete against Samsung Galaxy Fold which will eventually become the world’s first commercially available foldable device and has since has received multiple updates. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are incoming and are slated to arrive in August this year.
Unfortunately, we don’t have much information about the upcoming foldable devices from Xiaomi which includes J18s which appear to be an updated version of Mi MIX Fold and could arrive with a different moniker.
