In the last few days, Google has been showering the Google Messages app for Android with nothing but love.
Like the star function on WhatsApp, Google offers users the ability to star text, videos, and photos. The company wants to share the user behavior of taking a screenshot for everything. Instead, they want users to star their personal favorite things. We had covered this last month, in a Google Messages APK Teardown. You can read more about it here.
The feature was originally introduced as a part of the summer additions series. Long pressing on a message or a photo in the Google Messages App will now reveal an additional star in the top right of the screen. The option can be found beside the action buttons like paste and copy.
When enabled, it will add a blue tick mark to the bottom right of the screen that will scroll along with you. Google is gradually rolling out the feature.
In case you are still waiting for the update, the company has said that more devices will be supported in the coming weeks. The new star feature is currently available on Google Messages 8.4 beta. However, only users who have access to the beta channel can download it.
Moreover, since the update is server side, there is literally nothing you can do about it.
Recently, the tech giant also added RCS messages as the default option and introduced end-to-end encryption.
