Pixel 6 series will get 4 major Android updates and 5 years of security patches, reports say

Due to the Project Treble support, it’s now quite easy for OEMs as well as Google to push software updates to the eligible devices than the previous generation of Android OS (Android 7 Nougat or older). Recently, we’ve already heard and seen a bunch of leaks and rumors about the upcoming Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro models about the design, specifications, camera segment, other features, and more. Now, the reports are coming out that the Google Pixel 6 series will get 4 major Android updates and 5 years of security patch updates straightaway.

According to a well-known leakster called SnoopyTech, it seems that Google will provide long-term software update support to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro for around 5 years continuously that claims four years of Android OS updates & five years of security patches. Meanwhile, Google’s leaked marketing also gets similar to the five years of security patch update claim. So, we can rely on the report as of now.

However, there is no official confirmation available yet from Google on the four years of major Android OS update. Now, if we head over to this info, that basically indicates that both the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro models will receive the Android 13, Android 14, Android 15, and Android 16 continuously whenever released on a first priority as a Google product. So, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement on it.

We already knew that Apple provides 4-5 years of iOS updates on its eligible iPhones then Samsung has officially announced three years of Android OS updates and four years of security patch updates. Xiaomi is also on its way do the same. Whereas Nokia is already doing 2-3 years of Android updates to its devices for years. Although Google is also pushing three years of Android updates, if it adds one year extra then users will be delighted for sure. It might be possible due to the in-house Tensor chipset by Google which will unleash more potential in performance as well as software department.
