PUBG Ban In India! Here’s What A Gamer Should Know!

PUBG, one of the most popular battle royale formats of gaming around the world with about 175 million downloads in India itself. PUBG has been subject to controversy for a long time. Earlier it was only limited in the discussions related to mental health and psychological impacts of the game on our youngsters. Several states had also banned it temporarily on accounts of its addictive nature. However, this time it has been in news on accounts of data security and data break concerns.

As we know that the Indian government has banned over 100 Chinese apps in the play store and apple store on account of security concerns. PUBG has also been under the radar for a while. As the majority of its shares are held by a Chinese company named Tencent, the government now thinks that it might not be safe in terms of data to access the app in India.

If you ask me if it is possible to bank PUBG in India then sure it is. The government can ban any app on accounts of “national interest and security” under the provisions of section 69A of the Information Technology Act. However, the government does it, is a different matter.

Right now PUBG is a million dollar industry in India. Many YouTubers earn their daily bread by streaming this battle royale game. The level of its popularity in the country is so high that it can be used as a political campaign in India, who knows?

This game sure is under the radar of the government with 275 other apps but it hasn’t been banned till now. Even if it will be banned in the coming days then it will most likely be temporarily. Things that are as popular as PUBG generally find a way back in the market.
