Step-by-Step Path to Get a Student Visa to Australia
As a student, you’ll be applying for a Student visa Subclass 500. You should submit your visa application 124 days before the commencement of your course.
Step 1: Apply and get a CoE
You must apply to your desired Australian college/university/school before filing for a student visa. After the school sends you an offer letter, you need to accept that offer and pay their tuition deposit as asked by the school. After completing these steps, you will get a CoE, Confirmation of Enrolment.
Step 2: Create an Account with the Australian Immigration Authorities
You can now apply for an Australian Visa online. Create an account at https://online.immi.gov.au/lusc/register
Step 3: Get These Documents Ready
- Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) certificate
- Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement
- Financial Requirements that you can fund your studies (funds to cover your return airfare, tuition fees, and a sum of AU$18,610 per year)
- Your English Proficiency test results
- Australian approved health insurance cover
- Verification of your criminal records

Step 4: Complete the visa application online
Fill out your Visa Application online at https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/student-500
You can save the application and take a break if you want.
Step 5: Pay the Visa Fee and get a TRN-number
Pay the 575 AUD Visa Application Fee after you have filled it.[adinserter block=”2″]
You will get a receipt with a TRN-number (Transaction Reference Number) when the application and payment are done. Make sure to save it so you can check the status of your application.
Step 6: Possible Health Check-Up and Visa Interview
Based on the place you will study and live you may need to go for a health check-up and/or a visa interview. You will get information about this after you submit your application.
Step 7: Get your visa decision
Your visa decision usually arrives within one or a couple of weeks once your application is complete. You can check the status of your application by logging in to the immigration website (with the account you created in step 2) and if needed enter your TNR-number. Log in at https://online.immi.gov.au/lusc/login
Step 8: Travel to Australia
After getting your visa, you can enter Australia at the earliest 90 days before the course start date printed on your CoE.
